XBOX 360

Image
For fans of old Xbox 360 games, here’s a bit of very good news: Microsoft is finally making it possible to play Xbox 360 titles on the Xbox One. This was demonstrated onstage at E3 with Mass Effect. The setup seems to be similar to the way you played original Xbox games on the 360. You put the disc in (or download the game), and your Xbox One will play it. You will also get One-specific features too, like taking screenshots, game streaming, and game DVR. If you’re part of the Xbox Preview program, you’ll get a chance to start testing this later today with games such as Perfect Dark Zero, Gears of War, Super Meat Boy, Halo Reach, Halo 3, Shadowrun, and Borderlands. However, it looks like developers will only need to approve a game for backwards compatibility for this to work, so we’ll probably see a lot more Xbox 360 titles headed to the Xbox One very soon. In fact, Microsoft plans for more than 100 Xbox 360 games to eventually make it to its newer console. You should ...

PlayStation 4 review

There have been rumors of a 4K capable PlayStation 4 for a while now. According to sources at Giant Bomb, the console is very much real, and is codenamed NEO. The main differences between the current PS4 and the NEO is the higher CPU and GPU clock speed and higher memory bandwidth. The other specifications are seemingly the same. The 8-core Jaguar CPU will be clocked ay 2.1GHz instead of 1.6GHz, the the AMD GPU gets double the compute units ay 36 at 911MHz, and the 8GB GDDR5 gets bandwidth boost from 176GB/s to 218GB/s. Sony requires the game developers to make every game for both, the current PS4 and the NEO. The NEO will not get any special games, nor any special content of any kind, creating complete content and feature parity among both generations. Games releasing starting October this year will require to be developed for both consoles. The games are not required to be in 4K but will feature improved visuals and improved framerates, the latter being something Sony is bullish a...

Microsoft XBOX One S review

Image
If you’re a fan of videogames, you’ll know that both Microsoft and Sony are shaking up the console market this year. Sony has released the PS4 Pro, a supercharged 4k-ready version of the original PlayStation 4, and later this year Microsoft will release Project Scorpio – the most powerful console ever made. However, the truth is the best console to buy in 2017 might already be here; I'm talking about the Xbox One S. As its S suffix implies, it’s a slimline version of the current Xbox One, albeit with a few added extras. An astonishing 40% smaller overall, the Xbox One S is positively tiny compared to its hulking forebear. It's a gorgeous bit of modern console design, and I actually greatly prefer its white angular chassis to the rather more rounded layer cake design of Sony's newly-announced PS4 Slim.  It's also pretty attractive compared to Sony's PS4 Pro , and not just in terms of its looks. In a rather surprising move from Sony, neither of its new co...
